Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
A crucial acclimatization day. Hike east toward Lava Tower (4,600m), then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m). This 'climb high, sleep low' strategy helps your body adapt. The trek takes 6-8 hours through the alpine desert zone with stunning volcanic formations.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Begin with the famous Barranco Wall climb—a thrilling scramble requiring hands and feet. Despite its intimidating appearance, it's non-technical but exhilarating. Continue across ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp (4,035m). The 4-5 hour trek includes spectacular views of the southern glaciers.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
A shorter but steep day to Barafu Camp (4,673m), your base for the summit attempt. The landscape becomes increasingly barren. After 4-5 hours, arrive at camp. Rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit push. Try to sleep for a few hours before your summit attempt.

Day 7: Summit Day - Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Start around midnight for the summit push. Trek through darkness using headlamps to Stella Point (5,756m) on the crater rim, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Watch the sunrise from the summit. After photos and celebration, descend to Barafu for rest, then continue to Mweka Camp (3,080m). Total trekking time: 12-16 hours.
